State’s Unemployment Rate Falls to 11.7%; County Figures Available from EDD
The state’s unemployment rate fell ever so slightly during the month of October, according to new data from the Employment Development Department. Overall 25,700 new jobs were added last month. So then where does California’s unemployment rate currently stand? It’s now 11.7%, which is certainly lower than the 12.5% rate that the state had a year ago; that being said, 11.7% is still far from encouraging. The nation’s unemployment rate was 9%. Manufacturing, trade and transportation, government and mining and logging all saw decreases in jobs. Bright spots for employment included construction, information, financial activities, professional and business services, educational and health services and leisure and hospitality.
