New Deputy D.A., Investigator Start Work in Humboldt County

The Humboldt County District Attorney’s Office welcomed two fresh faces this week, with new Deputy District Attorney Nina Elisseou and District Attorney Investigator Gary Cooper starting their news jobs on Monday.

Nina Elisseou previously spent a year working for the Los Angeles City District Attorney’s Office where she prosecuted misdemeanor crimes. She attended the University of Illinois and American University Washington College of Law.

Gary Cooper is an experienced law enforcement officer, having worked with both the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Department and the Eureka Police Department over his 24-year career. He is also a former first sergeant of the 870th Military Police Company of the California National Guard.

Both positions are being funded by Measure Z, Humboldt County’s Public Safety/Essential Services Measure. The initiative raised the sales tax for five years to provide additional public safety funds. It was approved by 55.9% of voters in November of 2014.
