New Mosquito Species Invade San Bernardino County

One of them is called the “Asian Tiger” mosquito.

And yes, the two species found are disease vectors.

Aedes aegypti, aka the yellow fever mosquito, and Aedes albopictus, the Asian tiger mosquito, bring dengue fever and a few other lovely viral varieties with them.

The two species have been spreading around the state the past few years. Asian tiger was found in L.A. County in 2011 and the yellow fever mosquito appeared in Fresno County in 2013.

California is home to roughly 50 mosquito species, and we hate ‘em all.

More on the new species can be read here.
