49 California Parks Free This Black Friday

If you’re one of those people who refuses to engage in the all-out assault known as Black Friday, we’ve got some good news for you—or at least we did. Forty-nine of California’s redwood state parks are free to the public on the busiest shopping day of the year. But the event has turned out to be so popular that passes have since sold out.

The event is being sponsored by Save the Redwoods League.

“The shopping – and the leftovers – can wait,”their announcement reads. “Thanksgiving is about sharing time with family and appreciating our many shared blessings… That’s the best bargain you’re going to find this Black Friday!”

Unfortunately, the site has now been updated to reflect the lack of available passes. With the idea’s popularity now on clear display, the organization has promised to do better next year.
