Update on the Orange County Jail Escape Saga
By now, all three men who escaped from the Central Men’s Jail in Santa Ana have been caught. But they aren’t the only ones who were apprehended during the week-long manhunt. Last week, authorities also announced the arrest of Nooshafarin Ravaghi, an ESL teacher at the jail who is accused of helping the three men escape.
According to authorities, Ravaghi struck up a friendship with one of the suspects and then provided them with the tools they used to carry out their exit. She was arrested Thursday at approximately 3:30 p.m. but has denied any wrongdoing so far.
The last of the escapees, Hossein Nayeri and Jonathan Tieu, were arrested in San Francisco Saturday after a Whole Foods customer spotted them in a white van inside the store parking lot. The other fugitive, Bac Duong, turned himself into police the previous day.
With the three men finally in custody, the focus of the investigation has shifted dramatically. Authorities are now trying to figure out why and how the three men were able to flee and what steps can be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future. On Saturday, Orange County Sheriff Sandra Hutchens said an extensive investigation is already underway and vowed to fix any security defects at the jail.
