FBI: UC Merced Attacker Was Inspired by ISIS
A UC Merced student who stabbed four of his peers on campus last year was inspired by the terrorist group ISIS, federal officials confirmed Friday. The announcement puts an end to many lingering questions surrounding the heinous November 4 attack which fortunately resulted in no fatalities.
According to the FBI, the stabbing suspect Faisal Mohammed had visited ISIS websites prior to the attack and carried an ISIS flag but ultimately acted alone.
“He was self-radicalized and not directly connected to any subversive group,” Merced County Sheriff Vern Warnke added.
Both federal and local authorities initially characterized the attack as a random act motivated by problems at school. The latest reversal brings the number of ISIS-inspired incidents on U.S. soil to five.
