5th District LA Supe Candidates Debate in Pasadena

Six candidates are vying to replace long time LA County Supervisor Michael Antonovich this year, and they got together for a debate last week. The core issues touched on issues including LA's exploding homeless population, the long-controversial 710 freeway expansion and the Porter Ranch/ Southern California Gas Company gas leak which is in the District.

Pasadena Now and the LA Daily News have full rundowns.

Leaders in the race are thought to be, more or less in order, LA City Councilmember Mitch Englander, Antonovich Deputy Kathryn Barger, State Senator Bob Huff and prosecutor Elan Carr, with a couple more candidates rounding out the field.

Interestingly, most all candidates except for Huff spoke against the 710 expansion, which has become a major clash point for the environmental community and a business/labor/local government coalition pushing it's completion. Candidates all spoke harshly about So Cal Gas' handling of Porter Ranch, as was to be expected.
