The Ten Hottest Counties In America

The height of summer is fast approaching, and that means plenty of hot days ahead. But if you think you’ve got it bad, imagine living in one of the nation’s hottest counties.

The weather research engine WeatherDB recently used data from NOAA’s Global Historical Climatology Network to rank the hottest counties in the country, based on average temperatures from 1981-2010. Whenever there was a tie, it was broken using a place’s average high temperature.

Not a single California county made this list, but there’s good reason for that. The researchers only considered counties with 100,000 people or more, so counties like Inyo, home to the scorching Death Valley, were not factored in.

Of the counties considered, an impressive six out of ten are in Florida alone. Two were in Texas.

Here are the 10 Hottest Counties in America with populations of 100,000 or more:

1. Broward County, FL

2. Miami-Dade, FL

3. Honolulu, HI

4. Lee County, FL

5. Collier County, FL

6. Hidalgo County, TX

7. Palm Beach County, FL

8. Brownsville County, TX

9. Charlotte County, FL

10. Martin County, FL
