Please be careful on Highway 99.

A new study from ValuePenguin has ranked the Central Valley’s Highway 99 as the deadliest in the nation, with 62.3 fatal accidents per 100 miles. Despite its relatively short length (424 miles), it ranks No. 2 for drunk driving and No. 1 in darkness.

I-45 in Texas was runner-up. I-95 (Florida to Maine), I-10 (California to Florida), and I-75 (Florida to Michigan) rounded out the top 5. In terms of cities, Fresno was ranked as the most dangerous.

There are 2.7 million miles of road in the U.S., according to the researchers, which is enough to wrap around Earth 107.2 times.
