California Embraces Historic Clean Energy Goals

California Gov. Jerry Brown unveiled what is perhaps the most ambitious clean energy goal ever embraced by a state on Monday, committing California to total carbon neutrality by the year 2045.

Executive Order B-55-18 calls on the California Air Resources Board and other state agencies to develop a framework for the plan, which says California will remove as much carbon dioxide from the atmosphere as it emits 27 years from now.

The EO coincides with the signing of SB 100, which commits California to 100% zero-carbon energy by 2045, as well as the Global Climate Action Summit that kicks off in San Francisco today.
