Fresno County’s First Marijuana Dispensary Opens Its Doors in Coalinga

Dozens of people lined up in downtown Coalinga earlier this month to experience the city’s first recreational marijuana dispensary. The establishment, Have a Heart, is also the first adult-use dispensary in Fresno County. It is the second in the Central Valley, following Tulare County’s Valley Pure which opened back in May.

“This is a big deal for our city,” Mayor Nathan Vosburg told local NBC affiliate KSEE24. “You know, rebranding the nasty marijuana name into cannabis and into something that can help and heal.”

Patrons agreed, saying they had been waiting a long time for this moment. One customer noted it was safer to come to the dispensary than continue buying off the streets.

Security remains a top priority for local police and Have a Heart. Coalinga's Police Chief Michael Salvador said his officers are working around the clock to make sure everyone is safe.

The city does not plan on adding any new dispensaries soon, but a cultivation business known as Next Green Wave is slated to open before year’s end.
