San Mateo Probation Officer on Leave Pending Investigation

San Mateo County Chief Probation Officer John Keene has been placed on leave pending an investigation into unspecified allegations of impropriety. Neither Keene nor the county would comment on the nature of the allegations, but Keene said he has done nothing wrong and insists he will soon be fully exonerated.

San Mateo County’s Probation department has a history of controversy. Keene himself took over in 2013 after his predecessor Stuart Forrest’s arrest on child pornography charges. Forrest was later convicted and sentenced to 10 months in jail.

According to Keene, the personnel investigation should conclude within the next couple of weeks. It is unclear whether the public will ever get to see a copy of the report.
