Santa Clara Hires New Head of Parks and Rec
Santa Clara County has promoted a 30-year Parks and Recreation veteran to head the parks department. Deputy Director Don Rocha, who had been serving as interim director for the past several months, has assumed the position on a permanent basis.
Rocha began his career as a park ranger three decades ago. He eventually became a program manager and then deputy director.
“During his tenure with the County, Rocha created the department’s first natural resource program,” acccording to the Gilroy Patch. “He created the department’s first trails program, focusing on the delicate balance between park preservation and resource allocation. He also helped to develop the 10-year capital project budget plan now integrated in the department’s operating budget.”
County Executive Jeffrey V. Smith praised Rocha’s three decades of service and expressed optimism about the new leadership.
Rocha’s predecessor Robb Courtney retired in June.
