Tuolumne County Public Defender to Retire

Tuolumne County Public Defender Robert Price has announced his retirement after 25 years of public service, including the past 16 as head of the county’s public defender’s office. He will step down in July.

Price attended Western State University in Irvine and joined the State Bar in 1989. He took over as Tuolumne County’s public defender following the resignation of Gerry Osmer. He previously served as a deputy district attorney in Stanislaus County.

Price receives a base pay of $132,041 (the maximum), plus another 13% because of his seniority and benefits. The County Human Resources Department has recommended increasing the job’s max pay to $166,092 per year to improve recruitment efforts. The county would still save money on benefits.
