Kern County Sheriff’s Office Faces Money Troubles

Kern County law enforcement is strapped for cash, reports 23ABC. The Sheriff’s Office recently announced the elimination of its gang unit because its budget precludes a fully staffed crew. The department is having trouble attracting and maintaining recruits, Sheriff Donny Youngblood told the local station. Additional KCSO units could soon be put on the chopping block.

Gravely concerned, the Kern County Law Enforcement Association has begun circulating a petition that urges residents to contact their supervisors and tell them they want to see public safety prioritized.

The petition calls the current situation a “public safety crisis.” The community’s help is needed, it says, to “save Kern County from criminals and protect the residents.”
