Judge Overturns Deputy’s Rehiring by L.A. County Sheriff

An L.A. sheriff’s deputy who was kicked off the force for domestic violence and stalking, only to be rehired by incoming sheriff Alex Villanueva, has once again been stripped of his gun and badge.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mitchell Beckloff granted county supervisors a preliminary injunction in the case involving Caren Carl Mandoyan Monday. Mandoyan must “cease to hold himself out as a Los Angeles County Deputy Sheriff” and “relinquish all County property in his possession.” The judge has further ordered that "Sheriff Alex Villanueva cease to recognize or hold Mandoyan out as a Deputy Sheriff or a County employee."

The ruling deals a massive blow to L.A.’s controversial sheriff, who is less than 9 months into his term.
