Fremont Council Member and County Supervisor Candidate Vinnie Bacon Injured in Biking Accident

Fremont City Council candidate Vinnie Bacon was taken to the hospital last week with a concussion after some sort of bicycle accident, the East Bay Citizen reports. He is now recovering.

“For those who didn’t hear I got in a pretty gnarly accident on my bike last night,” Bacon wrote on Facebook Sept. 10. “I look absolutely horrible right now but I toughed it out through a long Council meeting.”

The councilman did not provide details about how the accident occurred.

Bacon has served on the Fremont City Council since 2012 and will be termed out in 2020. He is now vying to replace longtime Alameda County District 1 Supervisor Scott Haggerty in the 2020 election.

There are potentially five people in the race. State Sen. Bob Wieckowski, Dublin Mayor David Haubert, and Dublin Councilmember Melissa Hernández have all filed intent to run. Former Dublin Mayor Tim Sbranti may soon join them.
