Obesity affects 93.3 million adults in the United States, according to CDC data for 2015-2016. It can take a toll, not only on individuals and their families, but on society at large. Obesity-related medical costs amount to hundreds of billions of dollars each year.
But not all counties are having a problem with the extra pounds. 24/7 Wall Street has broken down the least obese counties in every state based on CDC statistics. You can see the full list here.
California’s leanest county is Marin. That’s not an enormous surprise, as Marin consistently ranks as the healthiest county in the state.
According to 24/7 Wall Street, Marin’s obesity rate is 15.7%, compared to the state rate of 23.6%. 88% of adults are physically active in Marin. But household income is also significantly higher than the state median at $104,703 vs. $67,169.
