She Flipped Off Trump. Then she Flipped a County Seat.

A Virginia woman who made national headlines after she was photographed flipping off Donald Trump’s motorcade has won a seat on her county Board of Supervisors.

“In 2017, a government contractor named Juli Briskman was fired for famously flipping off President Trump’s motorcade while riding her bicycle in Loudoun County, Virginia,” Vogue’s Michelle Ruiz reports. “On Tuesday night, Briskman got a new job, joining the historic wave of female candidates to run for office in the Trump era and won a seat on the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors, representing about 400,000 constituents.”

Briskman may be known for flipping the bird but she ran as a serious candidate, touting local issues like education funding. She beat the Republican incumbent Suzanne M. Volpe.

This is the first election Briskman has won. Before entering politics, she worked in journalism and marketing.

“I don’t employ that gesture very often, but I wanted to express my opinion,” she told Buzzfeed of the now iconic photograph last year.
