L.A. Supervisors Push to Close Aliso Canyon Facility

L.A. County supervisors want to see the old Aliso Canyon natural gas storage facility in Porter Ranch closed immediately. In a unanimous vote this month, they called on Governor Gavin Newsom to expedite the process.

The Aliso Canyon facility was the site of the largest natural gas leak in U.S. history in 2015. Residents and representatives say they believe the site still poses a threat to public health.

That claim is disputed by officials from Southern California Gas Co. The company has also warned that abrupt closure of the site would disrupt electrical service and cause possible shortages and price spikes.
