Santa Barbara’s Cannabis Discussions Delayed

Cannabis is a big issue in Santa Barbara County. It’s so big, in fact, that discussions about new limits on cultivation had to be postponed after too many public comments were submitted to the Board of Supervisors.

The Board will now meet on June 11 to debate possible new restrictions on cannabis growing amid complaints from cities like Lompoc and Carpinteria. The Planning Commission has recommended requiring conditional use permits for all cannabis operations to ensure they aren’t “detrimental” to surrounding communities. Buffer zones have also been raised as a possibility to assuage the local wine industry.

If the Board were to adopt the Planning Commission’s recommendation, 134 cannabis projects could be affected.
