Is Another California Lockdown Imminent?

Gavin Newsom is expected to announce new public health restrictions today ahead of the July 4 weekend. Newsom alluded to the coming restrictions Tuesday, as reported by SF Gate.

“We'll be making some additional announcements on efforts to use the 'dimmer switch' and begin to toggle back on our stay-at-home order and tighten things up,” he said.

It’s not clear what the new restrictions will entail but Newsom specifically pointed to family gatherings as a growing cause for concern. He said someone may arrive at a family gathering with the mask on “and all of a sudden here comes Uncle Bob, two hours late. He gives everyone a hug, and they're all, 'Hey, Uncle Bob, where's the mask?' And Uncle Bob, 'I don't believe in that' and the whole thing starts to take shape."

The governor reminded local officials they have a duty to enforce state and county health mandates and that their coronavirus funding depends on it under the new state budget.

The governor has already ordered the closure of bars in multiple counties and the state has expanded the number of counties on the coronavirus watch list.
