Vaccine Eligibility to Expand Dramatically Next Month
As of April 1, anyone 50 and over will be eligible for the coronavirus vaccine. Two weeks later on April 15, eligibility will expand to anyone over the age of 15.
Gov. Gavin Newsom made the announcement at a vaccine site in Orange County on Thursday. He had previously said all adults could expect to qualify for vaccination the first week of May, but the state is expecting a large increase in vaccine supply. Currently, the state receives about 1.8 million doses a week. It expects to get 2.5 million per week in the first half of April and more than 3 million doses in the second half.
“In just a few weeks, there'll be no rules, no limitations, as it relates to the ability to get a vaccine administered," the governor said. "This state is going to come roaring back."
As of Saturday, there were 16,775,843 doses administered in California with 28.7% of Californians having been at least partially vaccinated.
