Beaumont Mayor Announces Run for County Supervisor
Beaumont Mayor Lloyd White has jumped into the race for Riverside County’s District 5 seat, which is currently held by the embattled Jeff Hewitt. Moreno Valley Mayor Yxstian Gutierrez has already announced he’ll challenge Hewitt’s re-election. Hemet attorney DeniAntionette Mazingo is also in the race.
“Enough is enough,” White told the Riverside Press-Enterprise.
“Looking at this race, we need a supervisor who’s transparent and fighting for the needs of our district and we need to bring credibility back to this seat.”
Hewitt, the incumbent, is facing a lawsuit from a former aide. The plaintiff accuses Hewitt and his chief of staff of sexual harassment. Hewitt was also accused of sexual harassment by a separate county employee. He denied the accusations but settled the claim for $50,000 in taxpayer funds.
White has served on the Beaumont City Council since 2014. He said his priorities would be improving roads and freeways, improving public safety, and expanding affordability.
