The L.A. Sheriff’s Department has reached a settlement with the wife of late NBA all-star Kobe Bryant totaling $28,850,000. The agreement settles a lawsuit over leaked photos of the helicopter crash that killed Kobe Bryant, his daughter Ginna and seven others.

LASD has also agreed to pay $19,950,000 to co-plaintiff Chris Chester, who lost his wife and daughter in the crash.

The settlement follows an August 2022 jury verdict awarding Vanessa Bryant $16 million in damages from L.A. County. Chester was awarded $15 million by the jury.

Evidence presented at that trial revealed that a Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy showed a photo of Kobe Bryant's dead body to a bartender. Firefighters also showed photos of the scene with each other at an awards banquet and brought them home to show their spouses.
