Results: Special Election for San Diego County’s 4th District

Tuesday was the final day of voting in the special election for San Diego County’s 4th District. Several candidates were competing to replace ex-supervisor Nathan Fletcher, who resigned in May amid sexual misconduct allegations (Fletcher has denied the claims).

Here is the tally from the San Diego County Registrar of Voters as of early Wednesday morning:

Monica Montgomery Steppe 32,114 40.63%
Amy Reichert 22,924 29.00%
Janessa Goldbeck 20,011 25.32%
Paul McQuigg 3,988 5.05%

Based on the preliminary results, the election is headed for a runoff. Steppe would have needed over 50% to win outright.

The rematch between the top two vote-getters will take place November 7. The winner will serve out the remainder of Fletcher’s term, which ends in January 2027.
