The ACLU’s Northern California affiliate say that the Fresno County Public Defender’s Office has been in a “state of crisis” for at least six years because of budget cuts.
The three belonged to the Public Administrator’s Office and were responsible for handling the estates of deceased residents who had no family capable of doing so.
The investigation is expected to take several months after reports of unauthorized procedures.
Los Angeles County joins just over a dozen counties around the country with such a team.
