County Commissioner Tells Residents: Hold a Blow Dryer Up to Your Face to Cure Coronavirus
A county commissioner in Okeechobee, Florida has become the poster child for rapidly spreading misinformation about COVID-19.
At a March 20 meeting, Bryant Culpepper offered some unbelievable advice for killing the coronavirus after it enters the body. The virus is killed once the surrounding temperature reaches 132 degrees farenheit, he said. So “you hold a blow dryer up to your face and you inhale through your nose and it kills all the viruses in your nose.”
Culpepper said he heard the tip from a reputable doctor on One America News Network, “the fastest growing national network on cable” and “the new Fox News if you want to know the truth.”
Culpepper’s advice was shot down by health official Tiffany Collins, but he initially refused to back down. “No one is holding a gun to your head” and forcing you to try his blow dryer method, he said. The naysayers will “feel like fools when I am proven right.”
The heat (for lack of a better word) became to great and Culpepper eventually apologized. He said he’ll refrain from offering unproven medical advice in the future.
For the record, holding a hot blow dryer up to your nostrils won’t kill the virus, but it’s a good way to singe your face. The last thing our hospitals need right now is a rash of patients with second degree burns.
