L.A. County Firefighter, Sheriff’s Deputy Dead in Murder-Suicide

A tragic murder-suicide involving two county employees over the holiday weekend has rattled officials across Los Angeles.

According to authorities, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Cecilia Hoschet was killed Sunday by her husband James Taylor, who is also a Los Angeles County firefighter-paramedic. Shortly thereafter, Taylor fled to a fire facility in Pomona where he turned the gun on himself inside a government-issued vehicle. The couple’s six-year-old son was present at their La Canada Flintridge home where Hoschet’s murder took place. So far, authorities have said there is no obvious motive for the crime.

“We lost a wonderful deputy last night,” said Los Angeles Sheriff Jim McDonnell in a statement Monday. “Deputy Hoschet impressed everyone she met at the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department with her positive and helpful approach to her work. She will be missed.”

Hoschet had been employed at the Inmate Reception Center at the Los Angeles County Jail for the past two years. Her husband was a six-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
