California Supreme Court to Begin Streaming Oral Arguments Online

Move over CSPAN!

Announced by the state’s top judge, Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye, yesterday, the live streams of oral arguments are an effort to stay current in a time where the court system has had the screws tightened on its budget.

According to Cathal Conneely, a Judicial California of California spokesman, the May arguments out of San Francisco are set to be streamed but Los Angeles upcoming arguments currently have some technological limitations before they start streaming.

Cantil-Sakauye also spoke about reexamining certain aspects of the court system, like the system of bail, in order to avoid perpetuation of poverty. "We must not penalize the poor for being poor," she said.
