Mapping California’s Fire Risk
As California’s fire season rages on, you may be wondering just how vulnerable your home is to devastation. A new study from insurance risk analyst Verisk Analytics provides the answer, county by county.
The new analysis was based on proximity to forestry, topography (flat vs. hilly terrain), and how accessible an area is to first responders. Overall, the researchers found that 2 million homes or 15% of dwellings in the state are vulnerable to wildfire destruction.
Northern California is most at risk. Alpine County topped the list, with vulnerability at 88%. Trinity came in second at 81% followed by Tuolumne (80%) and Mariposa (78%) counties.
