Los Angeles county offers legal support to tenants facing eviction

Los Angeles County has launched a new program to support tenants at risk of eviction during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A moratorium on evictions was recently extended through October 31. The “Stay Housed L.A. County” program will provide information and virtual workshops to educate tenants about their legal rights. Tenants will also be able to access legal support.

The county is partnering with the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles, Bet Tzedek, Community Legal Aid SoCal, Housing Rights Center, Inner City Law Center, Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles County, Public Counsel, BASTA Universal!, Eviction Defense Network, and various tenant organizations concerned about the increased threat of evictions. Approximately 365,000 L.A. residents are at risk of being ejected from their homes, according to research from UCLA.
