Contra Costa’s Vaccine Program is Running Ahead of Schedule

Contra Costa County is a vaccine success story. It’s two weeks ahead of the state's vaccine eligibility schedule, ABC7 news reports. And that means it could start vaccinating people 16 or older any day now.

Local leaders say the key to their vaccine rollout has been working directly with civic organizations and leaders.

“Really the secret is about working with communities because they are an important partner,” Supervisor John Gioia told ABC7. “They help us get shots in arms faster in churches and schools and community centers."

After reaching out to dozens of housing projects and at least 10 churches, the county has managed to vaccinate 45% of their population. By comparison, the state has vaccinated 29.4%.
