Fresno Hires New Interim Social Services Director

Fresno County’s Department of Social Services will welcome a new interim director on Dec. 13. Maria Aguirre has been named to the post on a temporary basis. She’s replacing Delfino Neira who resigned after disturbing revelations about the squalor and neglect experienced by children in the care of Fresno County Child Protective Services.

“Aguirre has worked 25 years in Child Welfare serving in different capacities and for more than six years worked as Deputy Director of Case Management. There, she oversaw the CalWORKs Employment, Cal Learn, Child Care, IEVS/Collections, Fraud, Inter-County Transfers, and CalWORKs Homeless,” according to GV Wire.

“In 2010, she managed the opening of the West Fresno Regional Office to provide Social Services in that community. Aguirre’s prior experience also included assisting in the development and implementation of the statewide practice model in Child Welfare that focused on improving engagement with families while reducing the time children spent in foster care.”
