Another LA Juvenile Hall Fails Inspection

The Barry J. Nidorf juvenile hall in Los Angeles County failed a state inspection last week. The failed inspection came weeks after the LA Probation Department abruptly transferred 140 youths out of its Central Juvenile Hall and moved them to Nidorf ahead of an inspection there.

Issues flagged by the Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC) at Nidorf include excessive isolation and a lack of “meaningful” access to outdoor recreation.

The issues at Nidorf cosntitute a violation of the corrective action plan previously put in place by BSCC. The oversight agency determined the county’s juvenile halls were unsuitable for youths last year. That could happen again at the board’s meeting on April 7.
