Lake County Hires Interim Sheriff

Lake County supervisors have appointed a county insider to succeed Brian Martin as sheriff.

Rob Howe, who currently heads the county’s probation department, will serve as interim sheriff for the next two years. An election will be held in 2024.

Howe was one of two finalists under consideration. The other candidate was Lt. Lucas Bingham. Although Bingham intends to run in 2024, Howe does not. That gave him the edge with supervisors.

The vote for Howe was 4-1, with Supervisor Moke Simon voting no in favor of Bingham.

Howe worked for the Lake County Sheriff’s Office for 19 years and previously served as captain.
