Maria Christina Rivera Named Sonoma County Administrator

Sonoma County has promoted Assistant County Administrator Maria Christina Rivera to the County Administrator position, pending confirmation by the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, Jan. 10. She will be the first Latina, bilingual County Administrator in Sonoma, according to the county.  

Rivera has worked for Sonoma since 1996. She previously served as Deputy County Administrator, Emergency Operations Director, CAO analyst, and Administrative Services Manager for the county’s Transportation & Public Works Department. She boasts 25 years of government experience. 

Rivera was born in Santa Rosa but grew up in Mexicali, Baja California where her family is from. She received her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Universidad Autonoma de Baja California, Mexico.

Rivera will succeed Sheryl Bratton when she leaves at the end of the month. Her annual salary will be $282,116.
