Can AI Help This County Prevent Wildfires?

Officials in Santa Clara County have been installing special sensors along the Los Gatos Creek watershed. Using artificial intelligence, the solar-powered sensors will detect heat, particulates, and gas to alert the county of wildfires before they spread.

The data collected by the sensors is added to an interactive dashboard for quick analysis. County Supervisor Otto Lee wants to see the sensors installed countywide. 

“More proactive measures are needed to keep up with this growing danger and protect people, property, wildlife and land," Lee said.

For now, FireSafe Council and San Jose Water are installing them across 6,000 acres. These devices will help protect millions of county residents and their homes.
