SANDAG Appoints Coleen Clementson as Interim CEO

In a unanimous vote Friday, the San Diego Association of Governments’ Board of Directors approved the appointment of Coleen Clementson as Interim Chief Executive Officer. She’ll assume the position at the start of the year after the departure of Hasan Ikhrata.

Ikhrata, who has been CEO since 2018, gave his notice in July. His tenure has been rocky, thanks in large part to a controversial mileage tax he championed. After a bellow of complaints, the board removed the plan from consideration earlier this year.

Clementson currently serves as the agency’s Deputy CEO. She oversees community engagement, implementation of the Regional Plan, and an $800-million capital improvement program.

County Board of Supervisors Chairwoman Nora Vargas said she was “thrilled” with the selection of Clementson.

"Ms. Clementson understands SANDAG and the needs of our communities," Vargas said. "She is committed to carrying out our vision to empower and uplift community members through investments in our region's infrastructure that help people get to the places that matter most."
